Make A Difference
How Can I Help?
All of the programs at Literacy Now are offered at no cost to the children. We are totally dependent on the gracious contributions of individuals, churches and corporations, as well as grant funds to provide all of our program needs. We realize how many incredible organizations and great causes there are in the Houston area alone and hope that you will choose to support the children served by Literacy Now.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Literacy Now. Volunteers are needed to help support the success of children now more than ever. The COVID-19 pandemic brought the issue of limited access to multiple things – laptops or tablets, high-speed internet, high-quality affordable childcare, books at home, excellent health care– all creating educational inequities. The good news is there is an opportunity to invest in children facing these inequities! We have multiple ways you can make a difference by sharing your time and talents, and we would love to have you join our amazing team of volunteers!

Story Swap Libraries
Did you know that 1 book is available for every 300 children living in low-income homes?
You can help alleviate this problem by getting books into the hands of children who need them the most. We have identified numerous locations throughout Houston where children are really in need of access to great books. The Story Swap project offers many ways for you or your group to get involved.
Do your employees, service organization, or friends enjoy serving together? If so, take advantage of this great opportunity to impact the students Literacy Now serves.
Group Storytime is a great team building opportunity that provides 48 or 64 of our Reading Intervention program students (K - 2nd grade) with a fun way to improve their literacy skills.
Lunch Bunch Mentor
Lunch Bunch is a volunteer-driven mentoring program for 3rd to 5th graders offering programming for children who need additional social and emotional support. Children from the Reading Intervention program receive priority for Lunch Bunch participation.
The mission of the Literacy Now Guild is to support by assisting with program activities and events, helping to raise program funds, and spreading awareness of the organization. This fun group of ladies is very diverse representing all ages and stages of life – single, married, moms with young children, moms of grown children, and ladies with no children. Join this dedicated and dynamic group in supporting Literacy Now and the children we serve.
