Make A Difference

We are totally dependent on the gracious contributions of individuals, churches and corporations, as well as grant funds to provide all of our program needs. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Literacy Now. Volunteers are needed to help support the success of children now more than ever. The COVID-19 pandemic brought the issue of limited access to multiple things – laptops or tablets, high-speed internet, high-quality affordable childcare, books at home, excellent health care– all creating educational inequities. The good news is there is an opportunity to invest in children facing these inequities! We have multiple ways you can make a difference by sharing your time and talents, and we would love to have you join our amazing team of volunteers!

Story Swap Libraries

Did you know that 1 book is available for every 300 children living in low-income homes?

You can help alleviate this problem by getting books into the hands of children who need them the most. We have identified numerous locations throughout Houston where children are really in need of access to great books. The Story Swap project offers many ways for you or your group to get involved.
