When did you get involved with Making It Better? I was lucky enough to have been introduced to Making It Better over 10 years ago!
How did you get involved? I was teaching at Walnut Bend Elementary and was asked if Making It Better could use my classroom when needed. I fell in love! I watched children get so excited on the days the reading interventionists were coming. I saw such a difference that the organization made in the lives of so many children.
What has been your experience as a Houston Junior Forum member? The Junior Forum was introduced to me by a dear friend. I had spent several years taking care of elderly parents. My friend simply said it was time to do something for others! Junior Forum was my lifeline.
What is the most rewarding thing about mentoring in the Lunch Bunch Program? Watching the girls grow weekly. The shy ones coming out of their shells. The leaders learning the proper way to lead and not bully!
How has Making It Better impacted your life? Working with various groups, children of all ages and parents, the last few years has made me take a hard look at myself, and how truly blessed I am. I feel like we all need to be reminded of this at every opportunity!
What’s your favorite children’s book? Anything by Don and Audrey Wood or Eric Carle
What do you like to do in your spare time? Spend time with friends and family. I love to cook and entertain!
Why would you recommend getting involved with Making It Better? Everybody has a story to share, and the Making It Better children love to share their lives.
Do you have anything else you would like to share? The staff of Making It Better is exceptional! It is so rewarding to be around people that truly love what they do, and you can see it in their faces and their actions. Everyone from Jacque and Jerry down is truly there for the families they serve!
