Hello friends,

It’s a bit of a strange time at Literacy Now with all the changes going on in Houston ISD. Rarely does a day go by when someone – an employee, a donor, a partner, or a volunteer – doesn’t ask me “How does the new superintendent’s plan impact Literacy Now?” My response is “We don’t know yet but since his focus is on reading proficiency by 3rd grade, we are aligned in our focus, so we are forging ahead!”

Amazing things continue to happen in the lives of the children served by Literacy Now and THAT is our focus! Although currently, we are only reaching about 23% of the children in HISD and Aldine ISD that need our Reading Intervention program, we are celebrating the progress of the 1,300+ Kinder – 2nd graders we served this past school year. On average, our kiddos grew in their reading ability by 250%, and THAT is cause for great celebration!

Although we have no control over what decisions are made in either of the school districts that we currently serve, our priority remains the same: ensuring that all children in our program are reading at grade level by 3rd grade and that, in the process, they are lovingly nurtured.

So, what does the future hold for Literacy Now? We will continue to pursue sustainable growth opportunities with an emphasis on expanding our reach and impact while maintaining The Literacy Now Way:

RELATIONSHIPS | PARTNERSHIPS | ACCESS | INTEGRITY

STEWARDSHIP | ACCOUNTABILITY | EXCELLENCE

We cannot do this work alone and need each of YOU to continue this journey alongside us. Thank YOU for your partnership, trust, and continuing support – I am overflowing with gratitude for YOU!
