January Newsletter 2023

Monthly Newsletters

Dear friends,

Happy 2023 friends!!

As always, we are starting off with a BANG at Literacy Now! We are very excited to announce the kick-off of a new initiative – the Literacy Lab. This innovative approach to recruitment and training has been developed in-house and will recruit untapped talent across our city. We believe the Literacy Lab will help us meet our hiring challenges as we continue to expand to serve more struggling readers. Read more about it below and on our website.

The Literacy Lab is new for us and many of you may want to do some new things in 2023 which have become part of a New Year’s Resolutions list. Well, I have one more resolution to add to your list…be a part of the solution to ensure kids are reading on grade level by 3rd grade! At Literacy Now, we have many ways you can fulfill that resolution:

  • Join us for Houston Reads Day on March 2 (see article below).
  • Join our ladies volunteer Guild and become an ambassador for Literacy Now.
  • Become a Page Turner to support our programs as a monthly donor:
  • Build a Story Swap library so all kids will have access to books at all times.

Each new year brings with it the hope of starting fresh or maybe even a “do over” in some areas of our lives. Each January, I chose a word that will be my intentional focus for the year. This year, I have chosen three words, all with a similar theme: reset, realign, and refresh. These words definitely give y’all insight into my life, and I challenge each of you to come up with your own word(s) or theme for 2023. I’d love to learn more about you, so email me at jacque@literacynowhouston.org with your 2023 word(s) or theme.
