Monica earned her bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. She worked in the healthcare industry for 30 years before discovering her calling – teaching. Monica completed the Literacy Lab Program (Cohort 1) in Spring 2023 and is thrilled to be onboard as a reading interventionist. Participating in the development of the minds of our little ones is a sacred trust, and Monica is passionately committed to helping each child become a confident reader and student. She tutors students through her church and has also volunteered as a tutor in HISD. Monica has been a volunteer with Literacy Now since 2022 with the Reading Express Mobile Classroom and in other capacities. Her favorite books are biographies and mysteries, and she’s an avid tennis fan and thrifter.
