Did you know that kids can lose two months or more of skills if they stop reading over the summer? It’s called the “Summer Slide”. Beginning this week, we will be providing a Summer Program for up to 32 kids entering 1st through 5th grade who live in Belmont Place Apartments. The program will run Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 7th – June 30th from 9am – 12 pm.
Scheduled activities include reading, science projects, cooking, and much more! The Houston Public Library will be partnering with us to provide LEGO Mania and Puppet Theater classes for our students. We will also be partnering with ARTreach, who will be facilitating artistic activities including Clay & Literacy, Screen Printing and SONKISS’D Dance.
Harris County Dept. of Education CASE (Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment) has provided grant money to cover all costs of the Summer Program.
