Meet Eric Hernandez

Blog

This month we have the pleasure of introducing you to Eric Hernandez, who has been a volunteer with Literacy Now since the fall of 2017. Eric is a pipeline engineer for Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam (LAN). He became involved with Literacy Now through volunteer opportunities with the firm and eventually became the volunteer liaison.

On behalf of LAN, Eric has organized stuffed backpack drives, participated in Family Literacy Nights in west Houston, and volunteered at the Walnut Bend Elementary immunization clinics. His volunteer efforts for Literacy Now continue year-round as he coordinates bake sales and other events to raise funds for our organization. Eric’s favorite volunteer activity is as a participant in the Family Literacy Nights. He loves getting to see the kids enjoy the different activities that are offered and appreciates the opportunity “to be hands-on and talk to them…having the chance to make a small impact.”

Eric was born in Arizona and moved around quite a bit as his father worked for the U.S. Border Patrol.  He graduated with a civil engineering degree, and his position with LAN is what brought Eric to Houston. In addition to his work on large diameter water line projects that involve both new installations and rehab projects, Eric also enjoys cycling and playing guitar in his spare time.
