Dear Friends,
As we pause for Spring Break and prepare to finish the year strong, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the powerful progress happening both inside and outside of the classroom. Mid-year assessment data shows that our Reading Intervention scholars are making incredible gains across all reading skills, from phonics and fluency to comprehension and confidence. Because of our wonderful and compassionate staff, we’re also witnessing something just as important: self-esteem soaring and confidence growing in ways that reach far beyond academics.
We are also thrilled to celebrate the success of our 6th annual Houston Reads Day, our largest event to date, with more than 700 Pre-K to 5th grade classrooms participating across the city. This special day has quickly become a cornerstone of how we at Literacy Now support our students while building awareness, connection, and throughout Houston. A heart-felt thank you for all of our sponsors, donors, school partners, committee members, ambassadors, and volunteer readers for engaging, impacting, and empowering kids to read!
March is National Read Aloud month, and I encourage you to take just 15 minutes a day to read to a child in your life. Reading aloud offers powerful benefits, it strengthens brain development, improves memory, enhances analytical skills, and significantly expands vocabulary as children are exposed to new words and ideas. Just as importantly, reading together fosters emotional connection and creates a sense of comfort and security that children carry with them long after the story ends.
We are energized for the months ahead and excited to build on this momentum as we prepare our scholars for the next grade level. Thank you for being a vital part of this journey. Together, we are transforming outcomes and futures, one reader at a time!
